Dear Students, Parents/Guardians, and Friends of Herron High School,
Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our annual Meet the Teacher Night. There was a palpable excitement from our freshmen families and a sense of homecoming from our returning families. I had the opportunity to greet many of you and was gratified to hear so many wonderful comments about the quality of the Herron High School faculty. Our teachers look forward to this annual event, and this evening reaffirmed my belief that ours are the most caring, hardest working, and most dedicated faculty and staff at any school in the country.
You are always encouraged to keep in touch with your student’s teachers through email. It is also important that you check your student’s grades in PowerSchool regularly. Family engagement can make all the difference in a student’s academic and social success. The next official opportunity to meet with teachers will be during our Parent/Teacher conference day on Friday, November 3rd. Let’s all keep working together for the good of our students.
Students had an amazing time during the Club Fair and solar eclipse viewing event, and I want to thank all of our team members who helped make the day so special. Students were able to explore extracurricular opportunities AND watch the progress of the eclipse. They are already looking forward to the 2024 eclipse when Indianapolis will be in the path of totality.
I want to remind parents that Indiana law requires all students to have up-to-date immunizations, and that verification of these immunizations is provided to the school as part of the student’s records. In order to comply with this law, staff is currently reviewing student files to make sure the immunization records are complete and up-to-date. The immunization law allows schools to provide time after the start of school for families to acquire any needed vaccines, however, unimmunized students will not be permitted to continue to attend school after this time extension expires. Due to the demands of the law, we cannot allow students to attend school after September 15 if we have not received proof of their immunizations.
We do not want to disallow any student to attend school! This deadline is in place for your student’s well-being and is necessary for us to keep Herron High School compliant with legal issues.
Please help us with this important matter. If you aren’t sure your student’s immunizations are up to date, check with their doctor. Immunization records can be faxed to the school at 317-231-3759. Parents of students who are missing immunizations or verification will be contacted in the coming weeks.
Finally, attached to this newsletter are several important annual notifications of federally required policies. Please take the time to review them. Thank you for working with us to have a safe and secure school environment.
