Enrollment Dates for 2014-2015 School Year

 

Open Enrollment for Freshmen (Class of 2018)


October 22 – November 8, 2013
Each student in grades 8-11, applying for the 2014-15 academic year may fill out an application online here, or bring, fax or mail your completed application to Herron High School during open enrollment. Any applications submitted prior to October 22 cannot be accepted. Those who apply after open enrollment will be admitted if spaces are available. When Herron High School enrollment reaches capacity, applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

Lottery (if necessary)
: December 4, 2013

If applications received during Open Enrollment exceed spaces available for the freshmen class, a lottery will take place at Herron High School, as required by Indiana Charter School Law. The time and location of the lottery will be announced on our website and posted in the weekly newsletter. If a lottery is deemed necessary, only applications received during Open Enrollment will be included.

Acceptance Letters Mailed:* November 29, 2013 or post-lottery

Acceptance letters will be mailed on November 29 to all students who submitted an application during Open Enrollment. If more applications are received than spots available, and a lottery is conducted, acceptance letters will be mailed within one week of the lottery.

*Acceptance is contingent on meeting the enrollment deadlines for paperwork (see deadlines below) and on the successful completion of all 8th grade courses.

Paperwork Due


January 31, 2014
To secure your accepted status, the following information is due:

  • Complete middle school grades (6th, 7th and first semester of 8th grade)
  • Most recent standardized testing scores (e.g., ISTEP, Iowa, IMAST, ISTAR, Stanford, Acuity, LAS Links, NWEA, ECA (if Algebra I and English 10 were completed) etc.
  • Immunization records
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Copy of IEP or 504, if applicable for special education resources

June 30, 2014

  • Complete middle school transcript, including 2nd semester grades and test scores, demonstrating the student has been promoted to 9th grade.

An applicant who misses these deadlines will default their spot, unless an extension is approved by the Herron High School Director of Enrollment Services.

Placement Exam: Saturday, March 22, from 9:30 – 11 a.m. and Thursday, April 10, 2014, from 4:30-6p.m. (Choose one date; no need to R.S.V.P.)

All incoming freshmen must take a placement exam before scheduling their courses. If deemed necessary, based on placement exam results, a student may be required to participate in Herron High School’s Summer Academe program. Those who do not participate in Summer Academe will default their space in the freshmen class.

Freshmen Scheduling: Saturday, April 26, 2014

Course selection for incoming freshmen occurs on Scheduling Saturday. A course selection worksheet will be sent to each student’s home along with a letter detailing the assigned time at which to arrive in order to alleviate long lines.

Ongoing Applications and Waitlist

Applications may be submitted through mid-September of 2014, and applicants will be offered spots in the appropriate class as space allows. If a particular class is full, applications will be added to the waitlist until there is an opening in that class. Complete enrollment will not be fulfilled until the applicants file is complete. Sibling/Staff Preference

Applicants of Herron High School staff members and siblings of Herron High School students are given preference during Open Enrollment and are excluded from the lottery in the event one is required. After the close of Open Enrollment, siblings and children of staff members will be subject to all enrollment policies established for new families, including the lottery process.’

 

*Applications for Second Semester 2013-14 Transfers and Transfers for 2014-15 year

Any student in grades 9 through 11 who wish to transfer to Herron High School at semester break, or for the 2014-15 school year, may submit an application beginning October 22, 2013, at the start of Open Enrollment. If a space becomes available, we will accept students, who have complete application files, in the order in which we received their applications.

A complete application file consists of the following items:

  • Complete, up-to-date transcript
  • Algebra I, English 10 ECA scores, if applicable
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Up-to-date immunizations
  • IEP, psychological report or 504, if applicable

Transfer acceptance letters for the 2014-15 year will be sent in mid-Spring, after our current student body completes re-enrollment forms.
