Herron High School is an award-winning, tuition-free, public high school in downtown Indianapolis. We are founded on the belief that a classical, liberal arts education, where students are steeped in great historical thought and invention, is the best preparation for a future life of leadership and service. Using an art history timeline, Herron High School provides a distinguished educational experience by combining a classical, liberal arts curriculum with a college preparatory focus for students in grades 9-12.
Herron High School is known for outstanding student achievement. We have high expectations for our students, and multiple structures in place to help students meet those expectations. With small class sizes, individualized attention and a nurturing environment, Herron High School’s culture supports rigorous academics and provides all students with the tools they need to succeed.
As a college preparatory school, all Herron High School students are required to take four years of English, Latin, mathematics, science and social studies. In addition to core classes, students may take two elective classes each semester.
Complimenting an Honors program, Herron High School offers a rich diversity of college level courses, including Advanced Placement (AP) courses. AP classes are offered across all disciplines. Approximately one-half of our graduating seniors have earned college credit while in high school and are awarded an Indiana Core 40 diploma with Academic Honors.
As a result of a passionate faculty and staff, Herron High School has rapidly become one of the top public high schools in the country. Herron High School is designated a Four Star School by the Indiana Department of Education, and placed in the top 5 percent of schools nationwide in rankings by Newsweek, U.S. News and the Washington Post.
