Janet Harmon McNeal: Principal
Janet has more than 25 years of experience in education. Her first experience as a teacher was teaching U.S. soldiers American History and English in South Korea. She has directed high school and community theatre for twelve years. She taught American Literature and Ancient World literature at Cathedral High School prior to becoming the Honors Director and subsequently the Academic Dean. At Cathedral, Mrs. McNeal grew the Advanced Placement courses from three to twenty-one courses. She also led the research and implementation team for Cathedral’s International Baccalaureate Programme.

Mrs. McNeal’s expertise in curriculum development has served as a valuable resource during Herron High School’s start-up phase. Her knowledge in the areas of professional development, assessment tools, and student advising will be a rich resource to the faculty, students and the school community. Mrs. McNeal holds a B.S. in Secondary Education from IUS, a M.S. in Secondary Language Education form Indiana University, and a Certificate of School Administration from Indiana University Purdue University.

Dr. Deborah Cooney: Assistant Principal
Dr. Cooney's background includes over twenty years’ experience in the classroom, two published books, and a Ph.D. in instructional systems technology,

Prior to Herron High School, Cooney served as a middle school humanities teacher at The Hasten Hebrew Academy of Indianapolis. Before that, she spent eleven years as a teacher and director of technology training at Park Tudor School. Other past positions include director of curriculum at QuickTrain, Inc., training specialist for the U.S. Army at FT Benjamin Harrison, instructional designer for Bibliogem, Inc., and associate instructor at Indiana University’s School of Education.

The author of numerous newsletters, instructional materials, documentation and courseware for corporate clients and educational organizations, Cooney has been a contributor for organizations such as Eli Lilly & company, Macmillian, Inc., Independent Schools Association of the Central States, and Department of Defense Joint Optical Information Network. Among the books she has authored are Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning: A Case Study of Interactive Written Communication (1995) and Sharing Aspects within Aspects: Real-Time Collaboration in the High School English Classroom (1998).

Cooney earned her B.A. from Calvin College with a double major in music education and elementary education. She earned her M.S. in secondary education from Indiana University’s School of Education. Cooney also holds a Ph.D. in instructional systems technology from Indiana University’s School of Education. She is married with four daughters.

Todd Hurst: Latin & History
Todd Hurst joins Herron High School as the Latin teacher. Hurst holds a secondary teaching license in Latin and Greek. While earning his undergraduate degree, Hurst studied classical cultures, classical languages (including Greek), as well as history. His senior research project, titled The New Philopoemen: Not Necessarily Anti-Roman, analyzed current theories regarding the Achaean general’s stance toward Rome and Macedon; he applied these findings to Greece at the initiation of Rome into Greek affairs. Hurst also applied his classroom knowledge to the real world through his summer program study abroad experience in Athens and Rome.

Hurst earned is B.A., graduating Summa Cum Laude, from Ball State University. Distinctions included presidential scholarship, Edward Kadletz memorial prize in Greek, Yuhas scholarship, and Brademas scholarship.

Chelsea Koehring: English

Greg Lineweaver: Humanities Department Chair/English Teacher
Greg Lineweaver, a high school English teacher for ten years, is the Herron High School Humanities Department Chair and a teacher of ninth grade English/Introduction to Humanities. In addition to being a Nationally Board Certified teacher, in 2007, he was one of seven teachers in Indiana to receive the Armstrong Teacher Educator Award from the Indiana University School of Education.

Lineweaver has been involved in many aspects of Herron High School since its beginning. As a lead and mentor teacher, he has directed professional development in the areas of writing across the curriculum and effective teaching strategies, constructed a support program for new teachers, and been a member of an administrative advisory team. He has been actively involved in an early college exploratory committee that has worked in partnership with Marian College to create opportunities for Herron students to receive college credit prior to graduating from high school. His involvement with students has ranged from student publications to extra-curricular academic and cultural clubs.

Prior to Herron High School, Lineweaver taught English at Plainfield High School in Plainfield, Indiana, Lake High School in Uniontown, Ohio, and Nicholas Senn High School in Chicago, Illinois. He has also worked with both the Indiana University School of Education and the Butler University College of Education.

Originally from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Lineweaver received a B.A. in English from Butler University in 1992, an M.A. in English from Auburn University in 1994, and a teaching credential from National University in San Diego, California in 1998.
