Student Support

Meeting the unique needs of every student.

Herron High School has high expectations for our students and multiple structures in place to help them meet those expectations.

Whether helping students monitor their academic progress in Advisory or giving parents easy access to PowerSchool data, students, teachers and parents have resources to identify when extra support is needed.

Academic Advising

All Herron High School students are assigned an academic advisor. The advisor will assist students in developing a four-year academic plan and choosing appropriate courses as well as advising them on daily academic issues that arise.

Counseling Services

All Herron High School students are assigned a school counselor, who also serves as their academic advisor. Herron High School’s school counselors provide a comprehensive counseling program that supports students personal/social needs, college/career plans, and academic growth and prepares them for a future life of leadership and service.

Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center (SEMHC) School-Based Services

SEMHC is a collaborative effort to meet the unique needs of Indianapolis and surrounding area youth. It is a voluntary service offering families warmth and understanding. Services are provided by professional staff, experienced in assisting children and adolescents within the school setting and via telehealth. Our goals are client and family-centered. Evidenced based treatment is used to help students overcome challenging issues in a supportive environment. The teams collaborate with clients, families, and school staff to develop more appropriate coping, social, and interpersonal skills. This empowers clients and families to take an active role in improving their quality of life. The long term aim is for the family to successfully achieve their goals and graduate from services.

Our teams provide multiple services which include but are not limited to:

• Assessment and Diagnosis of mental health needs
• Therapy (including family, individual, group)
• Activities of daily living for child and parent (teaching skills in and out of the class room and home)
• Linkage to resources to meet basic needs i.e. food and clothing
• Consultations with a psychiatrist and clinical nurse specialist and ongoing medication management if needed.
• Nursing assessment and support if needed
