Herron High School Earns AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award

January 27, 2021

The College Board, which oversees Advanced Placement programs, has awarded Herron High School the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for increasing our female scholars’ access to AP Computer Science. HHS is one of only 232 schools to earn this distinction during the 2019-2020 school year. It recognizes the work HHS is doing to engage more young women in computer science; specifically Indianapolis Classical Schools would like to thank APCS instructor Matthew Baron for his work in making computer science known to our scholars as a career path with great potential.

According to the College Board, “New research shows that female students who take AP computer science are more likely to major in computer science in college compared with matched peers. (thus) preparing them for the high-paying, in-demand jobs of the future and giving them the opportunity to help solve some of society’s most challenging problems.”
