Ways to Give

A Donor-Advised Fund is a giving account often administered by a financial organization or community foundation. Giving through a DAF allows donors the flexibility of contributing to the fund as frequently as they like - and allows them the opportunity to advise the DAF when and to which organizations they would like to support. Donating directly from your Donor-Advised Fund is a convenient way to support our schools - and a great way to invest in our community. A DAF gives donors the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to Herron Classical Schools and it provides some tax advantages. If you don't see your DAF institution listed, contact your DAF manager and ask them to direct a gift to Herron Classical Schools. 

Many companies match employee, retirees, or even employees’ spouses’ donations. Through your matching gift, you can double or even triple your donations. Maximize your donation - check with your employer regarding matching gifts to increase the power of your gift to Herron Classical Schools. Community Programs

Giving stocks and appreciated bonds may offer better tax benefits than a gift of cash. Your tax deduction will be based on the full market value of the securities at the time of transfer and the gift will avoid capital gains taxes. To make a tax-deductible gift through appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares, please contact the Advancement Office at advancement@herronclassical.org.

Annual withdrawals from traditional retirement accounts are required after age 70 1/2, and there is a penalty for skipping a required minimum distribution. You can avoid income tax on your required distribution by making a Qualified Charitable Distribution. Check with your financial advisor to see if this method of giving is right for you.

Sometimes gifting an item that the school needs is helpful, such as classroom supplies, musical instruments, and athletic equipment. While a receipt is issued for all in-kind gifts, their value is determined by the donor and his or her tax advisor.
