ICS Campus Closure with E-Learning - Herron High School
Herron High School is currently on 100% Virtual Instruction. Campus is closed until the return to a hybrid schedule on January 28, 2021.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Directors and leadership of Indianapolis Classical Schools have decided that it is in the best interest of our community to close our campuses for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.

April 3, 2020 Update for Seniors:

  • E-Learning will continue on the Monday-Thursday schedule
  • The last day of E-Learning for seniors will be Thursday, May 14
  • All final exams are cancelled.
  • AP exams will be facilitated via College Board’s online at-home test format between May 11 and May 22.  AP teachers will provide guidance for their students. Additional information can be found at https://apcoronavirusupdates.collegeboard.org/students. Per Herron High School policy, students must take the AP exam to earn the designation of AP credit on their transcript.
  • Seniors still have the option to drop any classes not required for graduation through the procedure outlined in Mr. Roe’s email.
  • All in-person spring events are cancelled or postponed.
  • We will continue to serve meals to our families every Monday and Wednesday from 11:00 to 1:00 at both campuses.
  • Mr. Roe is still available to help seniors in their transition to college and life after high school, so please reach out to him with any questions.

Governor Holcomb has announced that Indiana schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. Because of this announcement, our e-learning program will resume at the end of spring break on Wednesday, April 8.

March 23, 2020 Update:

We are taking seriously our responsibility to continue to provide a strong education for our scholars while also recognizing the necessary accommodations that must be made in these unprecedented and stressful times.  With the announcement from Governor Holcomb of school closures until at least May 1, we have made some decisions about what the next phase of E-Learning will look like for Herron and Riverside. Here are the updates:

E-Learning Updates

  • E-Learning continues, Teachers are making a renewed effort to limit lessons to 45 minutes
  • Thursday, March 26 will be an E-Learning C-day with no new assignments
  • Spring Break extended – Friday, March 27 – Tuesday, April 7
  • Starting April 8, ICS will have E-Learning days on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with no E-Learning on Fridays
  • Monday and Tuesday, May 4 and 5, school will be closed
  • If we cannot return to campus May 1, we will continue with E-Learning lessons Wednesday, May 6 until the end of the school year on Thursday, June 4
  • Monday, May 25 will be off for Memorial Day
  • New grade calculation changes are in place (see letter for details)

Food Distribution and Other Updates

  • The state has cancelled ISTEP for the rest of the semester
  • AP testing will be completed at home.  We will reach out with additional information
  • ICS will continue to provide Meal Pick-Up for students on Mondays and Wednesday from 11:00 – 1:00
  • There will be no meal pick-ups during Spring Break

March 15, 2020 Update:

  • E-learning days will be held on school days from March 16th through March 26th on the A / B schedule outlined below.
  • It is required that students complete their E-Learning assignments each day; students will indicate their attendance once per day via an attendance link.
  • Teachers will update each of their classes’ Haiku pages by 10:00 am each day.
  • Each class assignment will consist of a 45-minute lesson that may include video of instruction and activities and practice for students to complete.
  • All teachers will hold virtual Office Hours to assist students. Details will be found on Haiku.
  • School leadership will be tracking attendance and reaching out to families of students who are not completing assignments.  Please note that calls from HHS administrative staff may appear as “Unknown” or as “0000000000”.
  • Should your student encounter technology or WiFi issues, please reach out to Mr. Wickware-Kelly at dwickwarekelly@herronhighschool.org.  Help Desk Hours will also be available at at Herron on Mondays from 11:00 – 1:00 and 4:00 – 6:00 and Riverside on Wednesdays from 11:00 1:00 and 4:00-6:00.

  • There are currently no known cases of coronavirus among ICS students, families, or staff
  • There will be no school on Friday, March 13, 2020
  • Saturday School scheduled for March 14, 2020 is cancelled
  • Beginning Monday, March 16, 2020 Students will follow the ICS Extended E-Learning Plan via Haiku through March 26, 2020
  • Benchmark exams are cancelled
  • Meals will be provided during the closure period as follows:
    • Monday, March 16  – Meals available;  2 breakfasts and 2 lunches per student
    • Wednesday, March 18 – Meals available: 3 breakfasts and 3 lunches per student
    • Monday, March 23 – Meals available:  2 breakfasts and 2 lunches per student
    • Wednesday, March 25 – Meals available: 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches per student
  • Spring Break Begins Friday, March 27
  • Classes are expected to resume on Monday, April 6, 2020
