U.S. News & World Report Ranks Herron High School as #1 Public High School in Indianapolis Metro Area
Ranked #218 on Best High Schools Index
INDIANAPOLIS (April 24, 2020) – U.S. News & World Report has again ranked Herron High School in the top public high schools in the nation, #1 in the Indianapolis metro area, and #3 in Indiana. Herron High School is ranked #218 out of nearly 18,000 public high schools considered in the latest U.S. News & World Report annual “Best High Schools” index, placing in the top 1 percent nationally. Among all charter high schools, HHS continues to rise in the rankings year over year, placing 51st for 2020.
“Receiving this ranking affirms the difficult and brilliant work that Herron High School’s faculty and staff do every day,” says Indianapolis Classical Schools president Janet McNeal. “This news comes at a particularly poignant moment. While our students and our faculty are missing their face-to-face interactions with classmates and colleagues during the current pandemic, they are knocking it out of the park with our e-learning program. We hear from parents of Herron and Riverside High School students every day, thanking us for our commitment to the rigorous academics and support that set our schools apart.”
To prepare students for the rigors of college, Herron High School offers open access to seventeen Advanced Placement® courses as well as dual-credit courses. A majority of students graduate from Herron High School with college credits. Most students graduate with an Academic Honors Diploma. Herron High School does not receive property tax dollars for facilities, technology or transportation. The school relies on support from donors, foundations, and corporate partners. Riverside High School, Herron’s second campus built on the same successful model, will be eligible for ranking after it graduates its first class in 2021.
