Dr. Cooney’s background includes over twenty years experience in the classroom as well as several years of experience in the corporate sector and the Department of Defense. Prior to Herron High School, Cooney served for three years as a middle school humanities teacher at The Hasten Hebrew Academy of Indianapolis and eleven years as a teacher and director of technology training at Park Tudor School. Other past positions include director of curriculum at QuickTrain, Inc., training specialist for the U.S. Army at FT Benjamin Harrison, instructional designer for Bibliogem, Inc., and associate instructor at Indiana University’s School of Education. The author of numerous newsletters, instructional materials, documentation and courseware for corporate clients and educational organizations, Cooney has been a contributor for organizations such as Eli Lilly & company, Macmillian, Inc., Independent Schools Association of the Central States, and Department of Defense Joint Optical Information Network. Her research includes work with collaborative communication classroom models and she has authored Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning: A Case Study of Interactive Written Communication (1995). She is a contributing author to Sharing Aspects within Aspects: Real-Time Collaboration in the High School English Classroom (1998). Cooney earned her B.A. from Calvin College with a double major in music education and elementary education. She received her M.S. in secondary education and a Ph.D. in instructional systems technology, both from Indiana University’s School of Education. Dr. Cooney and her husband have lived in historic Woodruff Place on the near eastside of downtown Indianapolis for twenty years where they have raised four daughters. Cooney enjoys sailing, gardening and reading.
